USS Cole is scheduled to arrive at Pier 4 of Litton Ingalls Shipbuilding in Pascagoula, Miss., at approximately 10 a.m. CST on Wed., Dec. 13, 2000.
USS Cole is returning to the United States aboard the Norwegian heavy transport ship Blue Marlin owned by Offshore Heavy Transport of Oslo, Norway.
Media representatives will be permitted to cover the ship's arrival dockside near Pier 4. Officials from the Naval Sea Systems Command and Jerry St. Pe', chief operating officer, Litton Ship Systems, and executive vice-president, Litton Industries will be on hand to brief members of the press at approximately 10:30 a.m. on dockside near Pier 4. The brief will provide details on Cole's upcoming schedule and repairs.
The ship is arriving at an industrial area and safety reasons preclude access by the general public. However, the ship's arrival may be viewed from the west end of Beach Blvd. in Pascagoula.
The timeline for future USS Cole events include off-loading from Blue Marlin in late December, and transfer to the Litton Ingalls Shipbuilding land level facility in mid-January to begin repairs. It is estimated that repairs to USS Cole will take a little more than a year.
Media wishing to participate should call the Navy/Ingalls media center at Ingalls Shipbuilding at (228) 935-3971 prior to 4 p.m., Monday, Dec. 11, 2000. The Navy intends to arrange for pool video and still photography coverage onboard Blue Marlin and from a small boat which will escort the Cole into port.
