Gen. Henry H. Shelton's travel to the Middle East
Gen. Henry H. Shelton, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, will depart Andrews Air Force Base, Md., this evening for a scheduled visit to the U.S. Central Command's area of operation and to Thailand. Shelton will first travel to Jordan, arriving on Friday, Feb. 19, 1999. The following day he will meet with his counterpart and King Abdullah before traveling to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
On Sunday, Feb. 21, 1999, Shelton will meet with his Saudi counterpart and also visit U.S. troop units and facilities at Prince Sultan Airbase before continuing to Qatar. In Qatar, Shelton will meet with the Emir and Crown Prince and hold a press conference prior to departing on Monday, Feb. 22, 1999. He will then travel to Oman for a counterpart visit before flying to Thailand on Wednesday, Feb. 24, 1999.
In Thailand, Shelton will be hosted by his counterpart and presented an award by Prime Minister Chuan Leekpai. A press conference will be held at the USIS building in Bangkok on Thursday, Feb. 25, 1999.
Shelton will return to Washington on Friday, Feb. 26, 1999.
