In view of Secretary of Defense William S. Cohen's scheduled testimony this afternoon before an open hearing of the Defense Subcommittee of the House Appropriations Committee, there will be no DoD press briefing today.
The next DoD press briefing is scheduled for 9 a.m. (EDT), Thursday, April 22, 1999. Rear Adm. Thomas Wilson, director for intelligence, Joint Staff (J-2), will provide an intelligence update at the top of the briefing. Ken Bacon, Assistant Secretary of Defense for Public Affairs, and Air Force Maj. Gen. Chuck Wald, vice director for Strategic Plans and Policy for the Joint Staff (J-5), will then provide an operational update of U.S. participation in NATO Operation Allied Force.
Correspondents should note that the Pentagon's 9 a.m. (EDT) briefing will substitute for NATO's operational update press briefing that day, as senior NATO officials will be enroute to Washington Thursday for the 50th Anniversary Summit.
