The daily operational update on U.S. participation in NATO Operation Allied Force on Friday, May 7, 1999, will begin at 2:15 p.m. (EDT). It will include an update by Assistant Secretary of Defense for Public Affairs Ken Bacon and Air Force Maj. Gen. Chuck Wald, Joint Staff vice director for Strategic Plans and Policy (J-5), along with an Air Force briefing on the E-8C Joint STARS aircraft.
The briefing on Saturday, May 8, 1999, will begin at 11 a.m. (EDT) and feature Bacon and Wald only.
There will be no briefing Sunday, May 9, 1999.
Next week's briefings will be conducted at 2 p.m. (EDT) each day.
On Monday, May 10, 1999, the Army will add an information briefing on the Multiple Launch Rocket System/Army Tactical Missile System to the operational update. The Army will also have an MLRS vehicle on display outside the Mall Entrance of the Pentagon from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. (EDT) and perform multiple crew drills for simulated rocket launches hourly.
