On Tuesday, May 25, Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Equal Opportunity William E. Leftwich III will give a presentation describing the Department's experience in developing social trust as an institution committed to equal opportunity. His presentation will be part of the Secretary of State's Open Forum. The topic for this week's forum is "Conversations on America: Social Trust and Foreign Policy."
Leftwich directs the development and coordination of equal opportunity policies and programs affecting all civilian and military personnel within the Department of Defense. Since December 1997, he has also spearheaded the Department's support of President Clinton's Initiative on Race. Leftwich haS conducted more than 40 "One America Conversations" exploring issues of race and ethnicity. The aim of the "One America Conversations" is to move the country closer to a stronger, more just, and more unified society, one that offers opportunity and fairness to all Americans.
The forum will be conducted from 11 a.m. (EDT) to 1 p.m. on May 25 at the Department of State's Loy Henderson Conference Room, U.S. Department of State Building, 2201 C Street, Washington, D.C.
