The Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for African Affairs will conduct a presentation today at 3:45 p.m. EDT in the Pentagon Executive Dining Room to introduce the newly formed African Center for Security Studies (ACSS). The presentation and reception following are open to the media.
The ACSS will launch its inaugural program with a Senior Leader Seminar in Dakar, Senegal in November. The center aims to support an appropriate military role in democratic governance by offering senior African leaders, civilian and military, an academic and practical program in civil-military relations, national security strategy, and defense economics.
Expected attendees at Thursday's presentation include ambassadors, defense attaches, legislators, other government agency representatives and news media, in addition to the ACSS faculty and the African Affairs staff.
