Army Gen. Henry H. Shelton, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, departed from Andrews Air Force Base, Md., today for a trip to Europe. On Sept. 14-15, 1999, Shelton will participate in NATO military committee meetings in Brussels, Belgium.
Shelton will travel to Prague, the Czech Republic on Wednesday, Sept. 15, 1999, for a counterpart visit with General Lieutenant Jiri Sedivy, chief of the Czech General Staff. While in Prague, Shelton will receive the Cross of Merit (1st Degree) from the Czech Minister of Defense Vladimir Vetchy. He will also have an office call with Czech President Vaclav Havel.
Shelton will return to Washington on Thursday afternoon, Sept. 16, 1999.
