Army Gen. Henry H. Shelton, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, departed from Andrews Air Force Base, Md., this afternoon for a trip to North Carolina and Hawaii.
In Raleigh, N.C., Gov. Jim Hunt will present Shelton the state's highest civilian honor for his outstanding public service at a 7 p.m. EST banquet to be held at the Sheraton Imperial Hotel in Research Triangle Park.
On Tuesday, Nov. 16, 1999, Shelton will travel to Honolulu, Hawaii, to attend the second Chiefs of Defense Conference. The top military officials from 15 Asia-Pacific nations will attend the two-day conference hosted by Navy Adm. Dennis C. Blair, commander in chief, U.S. Pacific Command.
Shelton will return to Washington on Wednesday, Nov. 17, 1999.
