CORRECTED Sterling [Stirling] Solar Dish Inaugurated

Department of Defense officials will join officials from the Department of Energy on June 8 at 10:30 a.m. (EDT) for a ceremony in the area adjacent to the Pentagon heating plant and South Parking lot to mark the beginning of operation of the Sterling [Stirling] Solar Dish. The Sterling [Stirling] Solar Dish demonstrates the highest efficiency of all solar technologies in converting sunlight to electricity. The system uses an array of mirrors to concentrate the sun's energy to generate, on average, 25 kilowatts of power per hour. The power the dish generates will supplement other energy sources used to power the Pentagon.
