OSAGWI Narrative Brief

Bernard Rostker, special assistant for Gulf War Illnesses, will present the next in a series of public releases of investigations his office has conducted on possible causes of Gulf War illnesses. His briefing will begin at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, August 4, 1998, in the Pentagon briefing studio, Room 2E781, and will be in lieu of the regularly scheduled DoD press briefing.

Two new case narratives and an environmental exposure report will be released, and two new initiatives to help our veterans will be announced.

The first case narrative describes Czech-French incident reports regarding chemical warfare agents. The second narrative describes the significant events relating to the possible release of chemical agents at an ammunition supply dump at An Nasiriyah, Iraq.

The environment exposure report represents an expanded focus by Rostker's office to include another set of investigative leads, possible environmental exposures. Today's report on depleted uranium is the first in this set of reports.

The two new initiatives will address expanded testing for exposure to depleted uranium and a program to make it easier for veterans to access their in-patient hospital records from the Gulf War.

Embargoed copies of these documents will be available in the directorate for Defense Information, at 10:30 a.m. Media or couriers without Pentagon access should use the Pentagon's Mall Entrance (not the Metro entrance) and call 697-5131 from the telephone adjacent to the entrance security guard post to arrange for pick up/delivery of copies of the documents.

These documents will also be accessible via the Internet at www.gulflink.osd.mil after 10:30 a.m. the day of the briefing.

The point of contract for Rostker's briefing is Joe Gordon, (703 697-5134).
