Defense Secretary William S. Cohen has postponed next week's trip to Germany

Defense Secretary William S. Cohen has postponed next week's trip to Germany in order to remain in Washington to work on the Pentagon's budget for the Fiscal Year 2000. "Unfortunately, I must remain in Washington to help resolve important budgetary issues," Cohen said. "I plan to go to Germany in February and meet with leaders of the new German government then."

Cohen had planned to meet with Chancellor Schroeder and Defense Minister Scharping in Bonn on Monday, and then visit students at the Marshall Center near Munich on Tuesday. The Marshall Center teaches students from Eastern and Central Europe how to manage national security policy in democracies. Cohen still plans to attend the meeting of NATO defense ministers in Brussels on Thursday and Friday, Dec. 17-18.
