Gen. John M. Shalikashvili, U.S. Army, Chairman of the Joint
Chiefs of Staff, will depart Andrews Air Force Base on Monday,
Feb. 17, 1997, to visit the United States Space Command, Peterson
Air Force Base, Colo., for an update on its mission and space
issues. On Tuesday afternoon, Feb. 18, he will hold a media
availability prior to departure for Offutt Air Force Base, Neb.
In Nebraska, the Chairman will visit the United States
Strategic Command for discussions and briefings about its
mission. A media availability will be held there on Wednesday,
Feb. 19.
Gen. Shalikashvili will fly to Peoria, Ill., on Wednesday,
Feb. 19, where he will serve as guest speaker at the Creve Coeur
Club's Washington Birthday banquet. This year's dinner marks the
club's 99th annual celebration of President George Washington's
birth and is one of the oldest traditions of its kind in the
United States. The event will commence at 6 p.m. in Peoria's
Civic Center. Gen. Shalikashvili will return to Washington after
the banquet.
