The Department of Defense will host its second annual Quality of Life Research Symposium at Georgetown University beginning at 8:20 a.m. EST on Dec. 11. The symposium will focus on the impact of information technologies on military quality of life.
Under Secretary of Defense for Personnel and Readiness Rudy de Leon will make opening remarks and participate in a panel with leading private sector corporate representatives from IBM, Motorola, Tenneco, and Lucent Technologies. They will discuss why a focus on quality of life issues has made good business sense for their organizations. Deputy Assistant Secretary for Personnel, Support, Families and Education Carolyn H. Becraft will introduce a video message from Vice President Al Gore. Other speakers include urban cultural anthropologist Jennifer James, author of "Thinking in the Future Tense;" Bruce Tulgan, an expert on Generation X; and John B. Mahaffie, co-author of "2025."
