Gen. John M. Shalikashvili, USA, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, will depart Andrews Air Force Base, Maryland, on Tuesday, Sept. 24, 1996 for visits to Norway and Portugal.
Gen. John M. Shalikashvili, USA, chairman of the Joint Chiefs
of Staff, will depart Andrews Air Force Base, Maryland, on
Tuesday, Sept. 24, 1996 for visits to Norway and Portugal. In
Bergen, Norway he will join Secretary of Defense William J. Perry
for the NATO Defense Ministerial.
On Thursday evening, Sept. 26, Gen. Shalikashvili will depart
Norway and travel to Portugal for a counterpart visit hosted by
Adm. Antonio Carlos Fuzeta Da Ponte, chief of the Portuguese
Armed Forces General Staff. Gen. Shalikashvili will also meet
with the defense minister, prime minister and other senior and
military officials in the Portuguese government and at the
Iberian Atlantic Command (IBERLANT) to discuss topics of mutual
interest and regional security. A joint press conference is
scheduled at the Portuguese General Staff Headquarters on Friday
afternoon, Sept. 27. Gen. Shalikashvili is scheduled to return
to Washington on Saturday evening, Sept. 28.
