The United States Atlantic Command is sponsoring a news
media visit to the aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt and
the amphibious assault ship USS Nassau at sea from Oct. 19-21, to
cover aircraft carrier operations and a marine amphibious landing
at Camp Lejeune, N.C., during Joint Task Force Exercise 97-1.
Coverage opportunities include an availability with Gen.
John Sheehan, Commander in Chief, U.S. Atlantic Command; an
overnight visit to USS Theodore Roosevelt as the carrier prepares
for its upcoming Mediterranean deployment; a day visit to USS
Nassau as the embarked 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit prepares to
assault Onslow Beach training site at Camp Lejeune, N.C.; an
amphibious assault on scene at Onslow Beach as the Marines come
ashore from the sea.
Washington, D.C.-based reporters will be provided military
air transportation to Norfolk, Va., the embarkation point for
this visit, and from Camp Lejeune, N.C., back to Washington.
Participants should anticipate an early morning departure from
Andrews Air Force Base on Oct. 19, returning there, late
afternoon on Oct. 21.
