Air Force, U.S. Postal Service to Unveil 50th Anniversary Commemorative Stamp

Secretary of the Air Force Sheila Widnall and Larry Speakes, U.S. Postal Service senior vice president, Corporate and Legislative Affairs, U.S. Postal Service, will unveil the design of a commemorative postage stamp highlighting the United States Air Force, the nation's youngest military service, at 2:30 p.m. (EST), Thursday, Dec. 5, 1996 in the Pentagon Press briefing studio, Room 2E781.

The first class stamp, commemorating the Air Force's 50 years as a separate service, depicts the service's air power mission and the pride and professionalism of its members in blue. The Postal Service will issue the stamp on the Air Force's golden anniversary, Sept. 18, 1997.

The unveiling ceremony will precede the DoD Press Briefing. Point of contact for this event is Maj. Jamie Roach, 703-697-5630 or via e-mail at roachj@af.pentagon.mil.
