No. 028-P:02/01/95:The Department of Defense will conduct two briefings

February 1, 1995

The Department of Defense will conduct two briefings to acquaint the media with details of the FY 1996 DoD budget submission. Details of the February 4 and 6, 1995 sessions follow:

SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 4, 1995: USE OF ALL MATERIALS AND COMMENTS PROVIDED ON SATURDAY WILL BE EMBARGOED UNTIL MONDAY, FEBRUARY 6 AT 8:00 A.M. EST.

8:30 a.m.: Budget materials will be made available to journalists in Room 2E765 of the Pentagon.

9:30 a.m.: A senior Department of Defense official will conduct a background briefing on the overall budget package. (Attribution will be to a senior DoD official upon lifting of the embargo on Monday, February 6, as noted above.) This briefing will be held in Room 1E805 of the Pentagon. No cameras will be allowed; tape recordings will be permitted for note taking purposes only. Owing to the expected attendance at this session and the smaller temporary DoD briefing studio in use, a "spill-over" room, with audio and video coverage of the briefing, will be available adjacent to Room 1E805. Publications are requested to limit participation by their staffs to essential coverage to allow seating for all reporters wishing to attend.

11:00 a.m. approximately: Immediately following the senior official's briefing, representatives of the Army, Navy/Marine Corps, Air Force and the Office of the Secretary of Defense will be available to answer more detailed questions in the briefing studio (1E805) or conference rooms adjoining it.

MONDAY, FEBRUARY 6, 1995:

8:00 a.m. EST: Embargo is lifted.

1:00 p.m.: Secretary of Defense William Perry will conduct an on-the-record press briefing in Room 1E805. Cameras and sound recordings are permitted. Additional seating for this press conference, with sound and audio coverage, will be available in Room 2E776.

On both February 4 and 6, journalists with White House, State Department or Capitol Hill credentials will be allowed access to the Pentagon via the Mall Entrance only. (This entrance is around the Pentagon Building from the Metro subway entrance.) Journalists without this identification, or a Pentagon building pass, must call extensions 50192 or 75131 on the house phone for an escort from the Mall Entrance guard desk. Parking regulations for the Mall Annex and Mall Entrance will be waived for both days.
