The Department of Defense will conduct a demonstration of telemedicine and
associated advanced technologies from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. (EDT) tomorrow, June
6, 1995, on the lower parade field at the River Entrance to the Pentagon.
The demonstration will be sponsored by Secretary of Defense William J. Perry
and Dr. Stephen C. Joseph, assistant secretary of defense for health affairs.
Secretary Perry will open the demonstration will brief remarks and a tour of
the exhibits beginning at 9 a.m. (EDT). The demonstration is open to the media
and the public.
The exhibits will highlight systems and technologies that will enhance medical
care on the battlefields of the future and extend the reach of medical
expertise to remote areas. These technologies are expected to become much more
widely applied in both military and civilian health care delivery, medical
training and education, and medical research. Telemedicine is expected to be a
major enabling technology in the re-engineering of health care delivery in the
United States.
