Secretary of Defense William J. Perry is hosting the first Defense Ministerial
of the Americas from today to July 26, 1995, in Colonial Williamsburg, Va.
Vice President Gore will make opening remarks for the Ministerial on Tuesday.
The Ministerial provides the Secretary an opportunity to get to know his
counterparts in the Western Hemisphere better and to initiate a dialogue on
defense and security issues. The Ministerial is being held in the spirit of
the Miami Summit and complements the process of hemispheric integration begun
there.
An updated itinerary of media events during the Ministerial is attached.

Conference will be at base flightline and is from noon to 12:30 p.m.

through 1:05 p.m.
. Photo Opportunity: Stroll to Governor's Palace by Secretary and Mrs. Perry,

Burgesses starting at 11 a.m.
. Press Conference: Secretary Perry in the Press Center starting immediately
after closing ceremonies or approximately 12:10 p.m. Ministers will also hold
individual press conferences later. Times and locations are yet to be
determined.
NOTE: Media should contact the Defense Ministerial of the Americas Press
Center, located in the Commonwealth Hall of the Woodlawns Hotel (in the
vicinity of the Colonial Williamsburg Visitor's Center) for credentials and
additional information concerning schedule and time changes. The press center
