No. 232-P:10/24/94:The Commandant of the Marine Corps and f
The Commandant of the Marine Corps and four Iwo Jima combat veterans from the
Washington, D.C. area will participate in a flag presentation at 1:20 p.m. at
the 19th Marine Corps Marathon Sunday, October 23, 1994.
This year's marathon has been dedicated to the veterans of Iwo Jima. The
Marine Corps Marathon has been named a World War II Commemorative Community by
the Department of Defense World War II Committee. The 50th Anniversary of the
Battle for Iwo Jima will be commemorated February 19, 1995.
The veterans will be available for media interviews 30 minutes prior to the
flag presentation and 30 minutes following the awards ceremony. All interested
media should contact 1stLt Kimberley Miller at the media tent on race day for
interviews.
