30 Years of All-Volunteer Service Conference Scheduled

The "All-Volunteer Force:  30 Years of Service Conference" is being held Sept. 16-17 at National Defense University, Fort McNair, Washington, D.C.  Gates Commission members, DoD officials, researchers and academics will gather to discuss the advent of the All-Volunteer Force in 1973 which was perhaps the most important transformation of the American military in the past century.

The anniversary of the All-Volunteer Force occurs at a time when the department is assessing the manpower and personnel implications of its evolving military strategy.  While the conference will reflect on the early years of the All-Volunteer Force, its scope will be primarily forward looking, covering topics that include sustaining the force in the future, the changing role of reserve forces, and policy transformation.

Media interested in covering this event should contact Maj. Sandra Burr, (703) 697-6727, no later than Sept. 12.
