Undersecretary of Defense for Acquisition and Technology Paul Kaminski and Craig R. Barrett, chief operating officer of Intel Corporation, will conduct a media availability at 3:30 p.m., on Monday, November 21, in the Hughes Room (second floor) of the Willard Hotel, 1401 Pennsylvania Avenue N.W., Washington, D.C., following the first meeting of the Semi-conductor Technology Council (STC). Kaminski and Barrett, co-chairman of the STC, will announce the council's membership and discuss the group's agenda as determined during this inaugural meeting.

The Semiconductor Technology Council was established by the FY94 Defense Authorization Act. Its mission is to link semiconductor industry and national security needs to opportunities for cooperative investments, to foster precompetitive cooperation among the semiconductor industry, government and academia, and to recommend opportunities for new semiconductor research and development efforts. The Council will serve a guiding function for SEMATECH investment levels and technology goals, and update the nation's semiconductor technology roadmap.
