No. 268-P:11/21/94:Secretary of the Army Togo D. West Jr.,
Secretary of the Army Togo D. West Jr., is traveling to Panama and Haiti this
week to observe first-hand how soldiers are conducting operations in support of
Haiti.
West received a series of briefings hosted by Commander in Chief, United States
Southern Command General Barry McCaffery at Quarry Heights today. This
afternoon he is touring the Safe Haven Migrant Camp, meeting with soldiers and
visiting Miraflores Locks.
Friday, Secretary West will fly to Haiti where he will link up with U.S. Army
Vice Chief of Staff General John Tilleli. Tilelli and West are scheduled to
meet with Maj. Gen. David C. Meade, Commanding General, 10th Mountain Division.
They are also planning to visit Division Support Command soldiers and observe
operations at Cape Haitien.
Secretary West will return to the Pentagon Friday evening.
