Urban Shield Biological Atttack Test Planned
The Pentagon Force Protection Agency (PFPA) Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear Directorate (PFPA-CBRN), in cooperation with the Department of Homeland Security, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Arlington County will conduct a comprehensive evaluation and operational response test to a simulated biological release. The test will provide valuable information for PFPA’s response to a biological release.
The test will consist of the release of a dust simulating a biological attack in the Pentagon South Parking Lot and the subsequent clean-up of roadways, people and equipment after the release. The dust contains a harmless inert bacterium found in soil, water and air.
Dependant upon favorable weather conditions, there are two possible weekends for the test: June 2 and 3 or 16 and 17.
PFPA will conduct a round table to brief local media representatives on the specifics of the test at 2:30 p.m., May 31 in Pentagon Room 2E139.
Journalists without a Pentagon building pass will be picked up at the Metro Entrance only. Plan to arrive no later than 45 minutes prior to the event; have proof of media affiliation and two forms of photo identification. Please call (703) 697-5131 to confirm attendance and for escort into the building.
