DoD to Discuss Adoption of Next-Generation Internet

John Stenbit, assistant secretary of defense for networks and information integration, will host a media availability to discuss DoD's adoption of the next-generation Internet protocol. The presentation will take place at 11 a.m. EDT Friday, June 13, in the DoD Briefing Room, Pentagon 2E781.

The new Internet protocol, known as IPv6, will facilitate integration of the essential elements of DoD's Global Information Grid -- its sensors, weapons, platforms, information and people. Adoption of the new standard also promises to expand availability of IP address space, improve end-to-end security, facilitate mobile communications, enhance quality of digital services and ease system management.

Media representatives without a Pentagon building pass who are interested in attending this event must have proof of affiliation and two forms of photo identification and be at the Pentagon North Parking Entrance by 10:30 a.m. Please call (703) 697-5131 for escort into the building.
