DoD To Recognize AbilityOne Program

Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition, Technology and Logistics Ashton Carter will host a ceremony to honor participants in the AbilityOne Program in the Pentagon Conference Center, Room B6, at 1 p.m. EDT on Oct. 20, 2009.

The AbilityOne Program is a federal initiative that works with private and public organizations to generate employment opportunities for Americans who are blind, or who have other disabilities. More than 40,000 individuals work under this program, including 2,000 wounded military veterans. The Department of Defense is the largest customer of this program, procuring approximately $1.5 billion each year in goods and services, to include first aid kits issued to the deploying Armed Forces, food services at base installation dining facilities, laundry services, uniforms, office supplies, digital imaging, and grounds maintenance.

Journalists without a Pentagon building pass will be picked up at the River Entrance only. Plan to arrive no later than 45 minutes prior to the event; have proof of affiliation and two forms of photo identification.  Please call (703) 697-5131 for escort into the Pentagon.
