On behalf of the Department of Defense (DoD), the Federal Voting Assistance Program (FVAP) will hold a 2010 Election Year kickoff press conference Jan. 7, 3 p.m. EST at the Fairfax at Embassy Row, Hunt Room, Washington, D.C.
Bob Carey, FVAP director, will discuss the importance of meeting the federal post card application deadlines and accounting for mail delays throughout the voting process. Rokey Suleman, D.C. board of elections and ethics executive director, and Tammy Patrick, federal compliance officer, Maricopa County, Arizona board of elections, and Doug Lewis, executive director of the election center, the professional association of local election officials will participate in the press conference. They will discuss challenges facing military voters during the voting process.
FVAP, a DoD organization, administers the Uniformed and Overseas Citizens Absentee Voting Act which requires states and territories to allow certain U.S. citizens to register and vote absentee in elections for federal office. For more information about FVAP, please visit http://www.fvap.gov .
