Secretary of Defense Leon E. Panetta will visit the USS John C. Stennis on Wednesday, Aug. 22 to meet with service members ahead of their deployment to the Middle East.
Panetta will address more than 2,000 sailors at an “all hands call” to thank them for their extraordinary effort to prepare for this upcoming tour. Last month, Panetta ordered the Stennis strike group to deploy in late summer, roughly four months earlier than previously planned.
While on board, Panetta will also meet with families of service members.
The event on Wednesday, Aug. 22 is on the USS John C. Stennis (CVN 74) moored at Naval Base Kitsap, Bremerton, 120 South Dewey Street, Bremerton, Wash. It occurs from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. PDT.
Remarks and media availability are open to pre-credentialed correspondents, print, radio, video and still photographers. All media must RSVP with the Stennis’ public affairs office by email at email@example.com before 2 p.m. PDT on Tuesday, Aug. 21. Pre-credentialed media will need to arrive 9:30 a.m. PDT, Aug. 22 for security clearance and pre-set.
