The Defense Department offers the third in a series of briefings on enemy prisoner of war issues on Friday, April 11, at 9 a.m. EDT, via satellite-teleconference to the DoD Briefing Studio, Pentagon, Room 2E781.
Briefing will be on the medical treatment of enemy prionsers of war and will originate from the hospital ship, USNS Comfort, in the Arabian Gulf. The USNS Comfort has been providing enemy prisoners of war with medical care since the start of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Briefers will include Capt. Charles Blankenship, the commanding officer of the Comfort's military treatment facility, Cmdr. Ralph Jones, the Comfort's chief surgeon, Cmdr. Tommy Stewart, the Comfort's head nurse, and Lt. Ramzy Azar, who has been acting as translator for the EPWs aboard the Comfort.
