Vice President Joseph R. Biden will join Deputy Secretary of Defense Ashton B. Carter to deliver remarks at the Mine Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) Program Transition Ceremony at 1 p.m. EDT, Oct. 1, in the Pentagon Auditorium.
The ceremony will recognize the collective contributions of civilian and military personnel who helped procure and field more than 24,000 MRAPs to U.S. and coalition forces in Iraq and Afghanistan. The vehicles are credited with saving countless lives.
In addition, the ceremony will mark the start of the transition of the MRAP Joint Program Office from the Marine Corps to the Army and the formal establishment of an MRAP Program of Record within each service.
The event is pooled for television and open for print journalists and still photographers.
Journalists without a Pentagon building pass will be picked up at the Pentagon River Parking Pedestrian Bridge only. Plan to arrive no later than 12 p.m. EDT to be escorted to the Auditorium; have proof of affiliation and two forms of photo identification.
