The Defense Department offers the second in a series of briefings on enemy prisoner of war issues on Wednesday, April 9, at 9 a.m. EDT, via satellite-teleconference to the DoD Briefing Studio, Pentagon, Room 2E781.
Topic for this event will be EPW treatment, and Law of War as it applies in the field. Speakers will include Army Col. John Della Jacono, deputy chief of staff for the Coalition Forces Land Component Commander, along with several staff members from the newly-opened Theater Internment Facility (TIF) in Umm Qasr, Iraq. This TIF is the main holding facility for Iraqi prisoners from Operation Iraqi Freedom. TIF staff speakers will include various police, medical, religious, and translator personnel.
The final briefing from this series will take place on Friday morning, April 11, at 9 a.m. This briefing will be satellite-teleconferenced live from the hospital ship, USNS Comfort, in the Arabian Gulf. The USNS Comfort has been providing enemy prisoners of war with medical care since the start of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
