Pentagon Opens Doors to First Renovated Offices in Wedge 1

The Pentagon Renovation Program will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Thursday, March 8, 2001, at 2 p.m. EST, to mark the partial opening of Wedge 1 for occupancy. The ceremony will be held in the Pentagon's Center Courtyard at the entrance to Corridors 3 and 4. Wedge 1 is one-fifth of the Pentagon's above ground space serviced by those hallways.

"It is our most significant milestone to date and marks the most visible part of the renovation program," said Lee Evey, program manager for the $1.22 billion renovation project. "Wedge 1 directly affects the average Pentagon employee and it will be the location at which our program will be judged."

The move by the first group of tenants was completed on Feb. 26. Personnel will continue to move into Wedge 1 over the next several months, an average of 150 employees each week. Wedge 1 will house approximately 4,400 employees when it is fully occupied in October 2001.

The Wedge 1 opening ceremony is open for media coverage. The point of contact is Tom Fontana, (703) 693-8935. For additional information on the Pentagon Renovation Program visit http://renovation.pentagon.mil.
