Secretary of Defense Donald H. Rumsfeld will host the opening ceremony of the Joint Services Open House at
Andrews Air Force Base, Md., at 10 a.m. EDT, Friday, May 18, 2001.
Secretary of Transportation Norman Y. Mineta and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Henry H. Shelton, U.S. Army, will join Rumsfeld in the ceremony.
The ceremony will include the awarding of medals to the 24 members of the U.S. Navy EP-3 crew who were forced to make an emergency landing April 1, 2001, on Hanian Island, Peoples Republic of China.
Attempts will be made to pipe the audio portion only of the ceremony into the Pentagon.
