Navy to Present Energy Conservation Awards
Eight Navy and Marine Corps bases and ships have received fiscal year 2000 Secretary of the Navy (SecNav) Energy Awards for their dramatic reductions in energy use. The awards will be presented on Thursday, Oct. 18, 2001, in Washington, D.C., at the U. S. Navy Memorial. The ceremony begins at 11:30 a.m. EDT. The keynote speaker is Hansford T. Johnson, assistant secretary of the Navy for Installations and Environment.
The annual SecNav Energy awards recognize leaders in energy and water conservation for dramatic reductions in energy use and equally dramatic cost savings. The Department of the Navy (DON) has reduced its energy consumption by more than 25 percent since 1985.
The fiscal 2000 SecNav Energy Award winners are:
- Large Shore Activity (Navy): Crane Division, Naval Surface Warfare Center, Ind.
- Small Shore Activity (Navy): Naval Security Group Activity, Sugar Grove, W. Va.
- Large Shore Activity (Marine): Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, S.C.
- Small Shore Activity (Marine): Marine Corps Air Station, Iwakuni, Japan.
- Large Ship: USS Boxer LHD-4
- Small Ship: USS Taylor FFG 50
- Squadron: Fleet Logistics Support Squadron Fifty-Seven
- Other: Naval Undersea Warfare Center Division, Keyport, Wash.
- Special: Navy Region Southwest, San Diego, Calif.
