Rumsfeld to Commemorate Terrorist Attack on Pentagon

Secretary of Defense Donald H. Rumsfeld will host a ceremony at the Pentagon at 9:30 a.m. EST, Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2001, to commemorate the moment the building was struck on September 11th.

At approximately 9 a.m. a large American Flag will be hoisted by crane at the re-construction site.

At approximately 9:36 a.m. EST Secretary Rumsfeld will take the podium at the re-construction site where he will be met by Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Richard B. Myers, U.S. Air Force. The Joint Armed Forces Color Guard will present the colors. At 9:38 a.m. a military band will play the National Anthem. At the conclusion of the anthem, Myers will introduce Rumsfeld who will deliver brief remarks. Following Rumsfeld's remarks, a military band will play "God Bless America" to conclude the ceremony.

The ceremony will be broadcast live via satellite from the Pentagon and will available to down link from the following satellite:

Audio 6.2 & 6.8 MHz

The ceremony will also be webcast at: http://www.connectlive.com/events/pentagonceremony/. The link will become active approximately 15 minutes before the ceremony.

Media interested in live video coverage of this event must have their production truck at the River Entrance of the Pentagon at 7:45 a.m. EST for escort to the site.

All other media must be at the River Entrance no later than 8:45 a.m. EST for escort to the site.

In the event of extreme inclement weather, the ceremony will be moved indoors to the Pentagon Auditorium Room 5A1070.
