Army Gen. Henry H. Shelton, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, departed Andrews Air Force Base, Md., today for counterpart visits to Portugal and Macedonia and a routine troop visit to Bosnia and Kosovo.
On Tuesday, July 18, 2000, Shelton will meet with his counterpart, Gen. Gabriel Espirito Santo, chairman of the Chiefs of Staff of the Portuguese Armed Forces, and His Excellency, Castro Caldas, the Portuguese minister of Defense, while in Lisbon, Portugal.
After departing Lisbon on Tuesday afternoon, Shelton will fly to Saravejo to meet with Army Lt. Gen. Ronald E. Adams, commander, Stabilization Forces for an update on operational matters.
On Wednesday, July 19, 2000, Shelton will fly to Skopje, Macedonia, to discuss issues of regional stability with Gen. Jovan Andrevski, chief of the Macedonian General Staff. Shelton then continues to Kosovo for Task Force Falcon briefings and to meet with troops at Camp Montieth, Novo Brodo, and Vitina.
Shelton returns to Washington, D.C., on Wednesday, July 19, 2000.
