The MK 41 VLS provides a missile launching system for CG 47 and DDG 51 class surface combatants, allied Navy surface combatants, and Aegis Ashore requirements for Missile Defense Agency’s Ground Ballistic Missile Defense Program. It is the primary missile launching system aboard Navy combatants used to store, safe, inventory and launch missiles of various types. This contract includes options which, if exercised, would bring the cumulative value of this contract to $135,879,787. Work will be performed in Baltimore, Md. (29.5 percent); Ft Walton Beach, Fla. This aircraft has been modified to carry the Battlefield Airborne Communications Node (BACN) payload. The aircraft and engines are provided by Northrop Grumman under sub-lease in support of overseas contingency operations under contract GA8726-09-C-0010. This contract also provides for the operation and maintenance of the BACN payload by Northrop Grumman and for the maintenance of the leased aircraft.
