Secretary of Defense Ash Carter met with French Minister of Defense Jean-Yves Le Drian today on the sidelines of the NATO Defense Ministerial in Brussels, Belgium.
Secretary Carter and Minister Le Drian reaffirmed the importance of the enduring defense partnership between the United States and France. They discussed a range of security issues, including Russian activities in Syria, and the need to maintain the pace of counter-ISIL coalition operations. Secretary Carter thanked the minister for his leadership role in countering terrorism worldwide.
