Readout of Secretary of Defense Ash Carter's Meeting With Thai Minister of Defense Prawit Wongsuwan in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Pentagon Press Secretary Peter Cook provided the following readout:

 

Secretary of Defense Ash Carter met with his Thai counterpart Minister of Defense Prawit Wongsuwan in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, today on the sidelines of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations Defense Ministers’ Meeting – Plus (ADMM-Plus). This was the first meeting between the two leaders.

 

The secretary expressed his commitment to the 182-year-old alliance with Thailand, and the two exchanged views on regional security issues.

 

Secretary Carter relayed his hope to see democracy fully restored in Thailand in order to fully realize bilateral defense cooperation between the two nations.
