Readout of Secretary of Defense Ash Carter's Meeting With India Minister of Defense Manohar Parrikar in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Pentagon Press Secretary Peter Cook released the following readout:

 

Secretary of Defense Ash Carter held a bilateral meeting today with India Minister of Defense Manohar Parrikar in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Both are in Malaysia to attend the Association of Southeast Asian Nations Defense Ministers’ Meeting – Plus (ADMM-Plus).

 

Secretary Carter reaffirmed the United States’ commitment to strengthening the defense relationship with India. 

 

Secretary Carter and Minister Parrikar highlighted the critical role that ASEAN plays in the region, and discussed ways that the United States and India can work together to realize shared security goals in the Indian Ocean region. 

 

Secretary Carter is scheduled to host Minister Parrikar in Washington D.C. on Dec. 10 during the minister’s first visit to the United States.
