American Forces Press Service

WASHINGTON, Aug. 6, 2013 – Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel continued his dialogue with his Egyptian counterpart yesterday in the latest in a series of phone calls between the two defense leaders, Pentagon Press Secretary George Little reported.

In a statement summarizing yesterday’s call, Little said Hagel and Defense Minister Gen. Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi discussed progress in U.S. and European Union mediation efforts led by Deputy Secretary of State Bill Burns and EU Special Representative Bernadino Leon.

The Egyptian defense leader underscored his commitment to peaceful resolution of the ongoing protests, and thanked Hagel for U.S. support, the press secretary added, and “affirmed the commitment of the interim civilian government to an inclusive political roadmap for all Egyptians."
