WASHINGTON, Nov. 16, 2013 Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel today phoned Egyptian Minister of Defense General Al-Sisi from Omaha, Nebraska, prior to departing for the Reagan National Defense Forum in California, according to Assistant Pentagon Press Secretary Carl Woog.
Hagel welcomed the end of the emergency law and curfew in Egypt, Woog said. The secretary, he said, reiterated that the United States values the rights of all people to express their views peacefully.
The leaders, Woog added, also discussed the importance of continuing progress on the roadmap towards inclusive democracy.
Al-Sisi and Hagel each emphasized the importance that the Egyptian and U.S. governments both place on the bilateral relationship and commitment to shared security interests, Woog said.
