Officials Report Marine Death, Identify Accident Victim

WASHINGTON, Jan. 16, 2006 – One Marine was found dead at Forward Operating Base Haditha Dam in Iraq, and the Defense Department has identified another who died earlier supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom.

A Marine assigned to Regimental Combat Team 2, 2nd Marine Division, 2nd Marine Expeditionary Force (Forward), died Jan. 14 from what officials called "an apparent non-hostile gunshot wound." The death is under investigation, officials added, and the Marine's name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

Meanwhile, the Defense Department has identified a Marine who died in Bahrain while supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Pfc. Michael Anthony Jordan, 35, of Augusta, Ga., died in an automobile accident Jan. 13 in Manama, Bahrain, officials said. Jordan was assigned to Destroyer Squadron 50 in Bahrain.
