Launched in November 2004, America Supports You is a Web-based program that highlights grassroots and corporate support for America's troops. The program's Web site, www.AmericaSupportsYou.mil, showcases ways Americans can provide support and helps put servicemembers and their families in touch with various avenues of support. The Ad Council is the United States' leading producer of public service advertising.

Both organizations' leaders feel the collaboration is a perfect fit.

"DoD is thrilled to partner with the Ad Council on the America Supports You program, because America Supports You is about the people. It's about the men and women who volunteer to serve this country; it's about the families, who volunteer to support a military career," Allison Barber, deputy assistant secretary of defense for public affairs, said.

"And we think it's a perfect combination for America Supports you and the Ad Council to go out to all American people with advertising and say: 'Hey, we know you support our military members, and if you want to learn how, you want to learn more, go to our Web site.'"

"The Ad Council is launching America Supports You because we know that America's support of the military has an incredibly positive impact on the troops that are serving abroad," Peggy Conlon, president and chief executive officer of the Ad Council said.

The ad campaign, being distributed this week, includes a series of public service announcements via radio, magazines and newspapers that highlight America Supports You and how the program's members help military members around the world. The ads also direct people to the America Supports You program's Web site.

More than 200 grassroots organizations and 25 corporations have joined America Supports You. To date, nearly 2 million people have visited the program's Web site, and officials hope the new ads will recruit even more people to reach out and find ways to support the troops.
