American Forces Press Service

BAGRAM AIR BASE, Afghanistan, May 7, 2006 – Recovery operations resumed today at the site of a U.S. CH-47 Chinook helicopter crash in Afghanistan's Kunar province that claimed 10 soldiers' lives, military officials reported.

The aircraft fell into a ravine. The cause of the crash is under investigation, and an investigative team is on the scene. Officials have ruled out enemy action as a possible cause.

The soldiers' names are being withheld until next-of-kin notification is complete, officials said.
