Two Soldiers, Two Marines Killed in Iraq

WASHINGTON, June 18, 2005 Two Task Force Liberty soldiers were killed near Buhritz, in Iraq's Diyala province, June 17. One Iraqi civilian and one detainee, who was being transported by the combat patrol at the time of the engagement, were also killed.
Two 2nd Division Marines were killed in action near Ramadi June 16 when their vehicle hit an improvised explosive device. No further details on this incident were available.
In the incident in Diyala June 17, a joint patrol of U.S. Task Force Liberty troops and Iraqi police engaged terrorists after a report of armed insurgents in the area.
Five Iraqi police and one Task Force Liberty soldier were wounded in the fight. The wounded Iraqis were evacuated to a hospital in Baqubah, while the injured Task Force Liberty soldier was evacuated to a coalition-forces medical treatment facility.
Following a search by U.S. and Iraqi forces, Iraqi army soldiers detained two suspects.
Task Force Liberty is built around the 42nd Infantry Division and is based in Tikrit. Names of those killed and wounded are being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
