Roadside Bomb Kills Marine in Iraq

WASHINGTON, July 22, 2005 – A Marine assigned to Regimental Combat Team 8, 2nd Marine Division, 2nd Marine Expeditionary Force (Forward), was killed in action July 21 by an improvised explosive device while conducting combat operations near Zaidon, Iraq, military officials in Baghdad reported today.

The Marine's name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

In other news from Iraq:

  • Elements of 1st Brigade, 25th Infantry Division (Stryker Brigade Combat Team), detained suspected terrorists and seized a weapons cache in northern Iraq July 20.
  • Soldiers from the 1st Battalion, 24th Infantry Regiment, detained 12 terrorism suspects and seized a weapons cache during a raid in western Mosul.
  • A cordon-and search operation by soldiers from 1st Battalion, 5th Infantry Regiment, resulted in detention of four suspected terrorists in southeastern Mosul.
