One Marine, Two Soldiers Killed in Two Incidents

WASHINGTON, Dec. 10, 2004 One Marine was killed during operations in Iraq's Anbar province, and two soldiers were killed and four were wounded in a helicopter accident in the northern Iraq city of Mosul on Dec. 9.
The Marine was assigned to the 1st Marine Expeditionary Force, and the soldiers belonged to Task Force Olympia. The names of the deceased servicemembers were withheld pending next-of-kin notification.
The wounded solders returned to duty after medical treatment. The incident involved two Multinational Force Iraq helicopters and is under investigation.
In other news, an improvised explosive device wounded a Task Force Baghdad soldier today. He was evacuated to a medical facility.
Also, soldiers from the 1st Infantry Division detained three people during raids near Duluiyah today and took them to a Multinational Force facility for questioning. One is a suspected member of the Taji Jihad Court.
Elsewhere, Marines from the 1st Marine Division, 1st MEF, found weapons and ordnance caches at a playground and school in Ramadi. The cache included AK-47 assault rifles, rocket-propelled grenades, RPK machine guns, mortar rounds and rockets. Also seized were three 60 mm mortar systems and six 60 mm mortar rounds.
Local citizens had recently reported many instances of insurgents using schools to secretly meet and to hide weapons caches.
