Soldiers Thwart IED Attack, Kill Terrorist

WASHINGTON, Feb. 9, 2005 Task Force Danger soldiers killed a terrorist near Balad Feb. 8, military officials reported today.
A patrol was investigating a report about an improvised explosive device being placed. Task force soldiers found and secured the IED, and killed the perpetrator. They found a detonator, batteries and wires on the body.
There were no reports of multinational forces injuries or damage to equipment.
Officials also reported that a 1st Corps Support Command soldier died as the result of a gunshot wound Feb. 8.
The soldier was pronounced dead on the scene and the body was transferred to the local mortuary affairs detachment at Logistics Support Area Anaconda in Balad, Iraq.
The name of the soldier is being withheld pending notification of the family. The incident is under investigation.
On Feb. 6, a Task Force Freedom soldier was killed by small-arms fire while on patrol in Mosul, Iraq.
