Drugs, Weapons Seized in Afghanistan

WASHINGTON, Feb. 8, 2005 Coalition forces in Afghanistan recovered several weapons caches and a drug cache containing more than 1,100 kilograms of hashish during military search operations throughout the country Feb. 7.
Military officials said a weapons cache located near Chamkani contained 12 rocket-propelled grenade rounds, one incendiary round, three boxes of ammunition, one box with 25 mortar fuses, four 82 mm mortar rounds, 12 75 mm recoilless rifle rounds and 12 RPG boosters.
Another cache in Zabul province contained mortar charges, five pounds of ammonium nitrate and an unknown number of blasting caps.
Near Naray, coalition troops seized eight 75 mm recoilless rifle rounds and two 82 mm mortar rounds. And in Kapisa province, three 107 mm rockets and four projectiles were found.
Coalition forces also discovered one circuit tester, a gunner's quadrant, two initiators, one possible rocket remote firing device and one battery-powered switch in Ghazni province.
A sixth weapons cache turned up in Uruzgan province and contained one 82 mm recoilless.
Military officials said forces secured all the weapon caches and turned over the drug cache to the local 9th District Kandahar police.
